It’s been a long time coming, and I’ve gotten plenty of email requesting the new features that have finally made their way into BeTwittered. Most notable are the reply and direct message functions. The interface also got a bit of an upgrade with nice icons/buttons, and now by clicking the “Show More” button on a tweet, you can get extended info about the sender and the tweet. The “show more” button, by the way, is how you also get to the reply and direct message buttons.
Next on my plate? I’m looking to add a “replies” tab so you can see who has sent you a reply. Also, I will be adding a “back” button so you can page through your tweet history. This has to wait until Twitter turns this feature back on. Right now, it’s just not available to us.

any plans to integrate a ‘favorite’ button? also it’d be nice if the timestamp linked to the original post.
Hi livejamie,
The favorites button is a sure thing.
I’ll look at the timestamp suggestion. Is that fairly standard? I’ve just never noticed if it is. That would be another “easy add”
thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Robert,
I’m finding that while I can send direct messages to people, BeTwittered isn’t displaying direct messages to me. I’m wondering if this is by design or if I’m doing something wrong?
Cheers,
Morgan.
Hi Morgan,
You aren’t doing anything wrong. Direct messages are private. Right now, BeTwittered only shows public messages (which includes replies) I’ve added tabs for Replies, Direct Messages, and Favorites to the beta version, and I think I’ll putting out the upgrade this coming weekend.
When the update is out, you’ll be able to click on the “direct” tab to see those messages.
Thanks,
Robert
Thanks Robert. I’m using iwantsandy.com for task management, and she does integrate with Twitter but only via direct messages. The ability to see these on Twitter would be fantastic.
Keep up the good work; BeTwittered is fantastic.
Currently (last few days) I experience that I can post, but my posts are not displayed in the BeTwittered list.
Even a refresh doesn’t help.
Hi Uwe,
This happens to me too. I’ve noticed that the post is succeeding, though, just not showing in BeTwittered.
I believe this is caused by the Twitter servers not serving data consistently (internal vs API) In laymens terms: It appears that their web page gets better service than clients applications.
Let me know if your tweets arent’ showing on your twitter page. (preferably via email using the feedback button so we can be more “chatty”) I’d be glad to help out and look into this.
Thanks!
Robert
Hi Robert
Yes, the tweets are occuring on Twitter. So your assumption sounds reasonable.
Thanks for pointing out!
Hi Robert
I really like BeTwittered, and since Twitter and most apps are filtered at work it’s the only way I can find to tweet from work. The new features are great but for the last couple of days I’ve noticed that my @replies and direct messages never appear. I’ve checked on the Twitter website at home and they don’t appear there either- it seems they just disappear somewhere inside BeTwittered
Cheers!
Hi David,
Thanks for letting me know. Once I found out about this, it was easy to find the bug. I’ll have it fixed today.
You may want to do a “ctrl+F5″ or ctrl+refresh on your iGoogle page to clear the cache of the old BeTwittered version tomorrow morning.
Thanks,
Robert
Robert,
Not sure if your reply above was for me, but just to let you know that all is well with BeTwittered again this morning. I logged out and cleared the cache just to be on the safe side as well but it looks like the bug has gone.
Great service, thanks.
Mike
Given the couple of days Twitter has had, I think it surely has to be on the skids from now. Tweeps are heading for Identi.ca in their droves. Any plans to support that?

Hi Ian,
Yes! I’m definitely considering identi.ca support. Given that it’s probably going to be a minor code port, I may just duplicate the gadget. I may additionally integrate into one gadget that supports identi.ca and twitter accounts. Not yet sure which I should do, or both, or another option I’m not considering?
Any thoughts from anyone on this? I like to make changes and decisions based on input from people who use BeTwittered rather than assume I know best. I’ve proven that assumption wrong on many an occasion!
Thanks,
Robert
I’ve already ported BeTwittered to Identi.ca. It should show up in iGoogle’s directory shortly. It’s not tested well yet, but I figured, what the heck, let it go! Basic features are definitely working. You can login, post, follow your timeline, and see replies.
You should find it searching for “identi.ca” or “32hours”
